It’s that time of year again and holiday parties are in full swing! Evenings filled with endless amounts of conversation with family and friends, surrounded by delicious foods, sweets, and festive cocktails. During the holiday season, we like to provide helpful tips to prevent you from having bad breath for all of your Christmas events this holiday season.
Brush Your Teeth.. to prevent bad breath
As you get ready for your party, be sure to give your teeth and tongue a quick brush. Did you know that during the day, bacteria accumulates in your mouth and especially on your tongue? A lot of people forget to brush their teeth let alone brushing their tongues. We also tend to assume our bad breath is coming from our teeth because of what we ate. Brushing your tongue, in combination with brushing your teeth and flossing will prevent bad breath and keep your breath smelling fresh for your family and friends!
Stay Hydrated.. to prevent bad breath
One of the best ways to prevent bad breath especially on the go is to stay hydrated by drinking lots of water. If your mouth is dry then bacteria will accumulate on your tongue, gums and the inside of your cheeks. Saliva helps moisten the mouth and neutralize the acids produced by plaque and wash away the odor causing bacteria. Keep in mind that ongoing dry mouth could be a sign of a larger medical condition. If you continue to experience dry mouth, please see your family doctor.
Eat Your Veggies.. to prevent bad breath
Vegetables keep your breath fresh, especially carrots and celery because they are full of water and vitamin C which clean out your mouth and kill odor-causing bacteria. So, when you see that platter of veggies at the party, take a few and munch on those!
Ask For A Lemon.. to prevent bad breath
Citrus fruits, like lemons, limes and oranges help prevent bad breath because they rinse your plaque and bacteria from your mouth. So if you already plan on drinking lots of water, ask your host for a lemon (or other citrus fruit) for your water.
Finally, When All Else Fails, Chew Gum!
Perhaps the easiest way to prevent bad breath is chewing sugarless mint gum. Chewing gum increases saliva production which rinses away smelly bacteria. A mint flavour will also leave your mouth fresh. We recommend carrying a pack of gum or mints with you in your pocket.
We hope these tips help get you through the busy holiday season smelling minty-fresh!
