What does it mean to truly give back? When you are in a position where you can help others, you always should. However, just because you can offer help it doesn’t mean it will necessarily be accepted. Sometimes a person’s pride may actually block their blessings. The best way to give is to offer someone a hand up (rather than a hand out) and help empower them to become a better version of themselves.
It’s nice when charitable organizations are able to be recognized; not for the purpose of acclaim but meant to inspire others to be more charitable to others as well. “Smiles at the West Kootenay Community Teeth Clinic in Nelson will be a lot wider today after winning $50,000 in a provincewide contest for local charities. Pacific Blue Cross announced the winners of its Share The Care project today, part of the not-for-profit health insurer’s plan to celebrate its 75th anniversary by giving away $75,000. Although the Pacific Blue Cross Foundation regularly gives between $300,00 and $500,000 to charities each year, it added a new twist in 2015 by selecting five existing recipients, making short videos about their work and then asking people to vote online for their favourites. More than 16,000 cast votes, with the teeth clinic winning. The clinic provides low-cost dental care to families with a net income of less than $30,000 a year. The collaboration between dentists, Interior Health authority and donors plans to expand services to other towns in southeastern B.C. with the money.”
